# ARGENTINA.md — Brand Kit

> A country, as a file. Incorporation infrastructure for autonomous agents.

Version 1.1 — 2026-06-29. Owner: founding team. Derived from internal design research. Published as the public kit at [/brand](https://argentina.md/brand) (agent twin: [/brand.md](https://argentina.md/brand.md)).

---

## 1. The name

**ARGENTINA.md** is written exactly like a filename, because it is one. The
core conceit: *a country whose legal system became machine-readable deserves
a domain that reads like a file*. The website literally serves itself as
markdown (`curl argentina.md` returns the document). The product turns
Argentine corporate law into something an agent can parse, call, and join.

Rules:
- Always uppercase **ARGENTINA**, always lowercase **.md**: `ARGENTINA.md`.
- In prose, never "Argentina MD", "argentina.MD", or "Argentina.md".
- In code/repo contexts the kebab form is `argentina-md` (the repo slug).
- Yes, `.md` is also Moldova's ccTLD. We know. The file extension won.

## 2. The concept: sovereign paperwork

The aesthetic is **Boletín Oficial × man page** — the Argentine state
gazette typeset for a terminal. **The terminal-dark view is the only theme** —
there is no light/paper variant and no toggle (agents don't toggle themes; the
terminal view is the brand — DESIGN.md §0). "Paper" survives only as provenance:
official documents are paper, so the document *model* is paper — but it is
rendered dark. The terminal conceit must always be *functional* (curl-able pages,
real monospace grids, copy-paste-clean text), never a costume (no fake window
chrome, no scanlines, no Matrix green, no typing animations).

One sentence to test every design decision against:

> **"Minted, not designed."** — like the 1813 coin the sun comes from.

## 3. The marks: Sol de Mayo (braille) + ARGENTINA.md (FIGlet)

The mark is the **Sol de Mayo** — the sun from Argentina's first coin (1813)
and its flag (32 rays, 16 straight alternating with 16 wavy, and a face). We
draw it once, geometrically, then **rasterize and convert it to Unicode
braille** (U+2800–28FF) with `chafa`. The result is high-fidelity yet **pure
text**: it renders identically in a terminal, the markdown
twin, the agent skill at `/skill.md`, a plain `curl`, and the homepage (as
`<pre>`). No SVG or PNG is ever the
product mark — the agent-native brand can't depend on a raster the shell can't
draw. The braille's source of truth is `brand/media-kit/sol-mind-frames.json`
(rendered by the SVG→`chafa` pipeline; the shipped still is its frame 0, mirrored
in `apps/web/src/components/sol-mind-frames.ts`). Distinct from this,
`brand/media-kit/sol.svg` is the source of the **pixel sun (SOL-BIT)** below — an
8×8 raster mark, not the high-resolution face the braille is drawn from.

The braille is rendered in a **braille-capable monospace** (`ui-monospace,
"SF Mono", Menlo, "DejaVu Sans Mono", …`) so dots and blanks share one width;
the rest of the brand stays in Server Mono.

### SOL — the isotype (three sizes; gold, `<pre>` + aria-label)

Canonical medium (masthead small / hero large variants live in
`apps/web/src/components/Sol.tsx`):

```
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⢀⠐⣄⢡⢸⡀⢀⡇⡔⣠⠂⡀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⢄⡑⣜⣮⣎⣷⣾⣱⣵⣣⢊⡠⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠈⠠⠋⡘⢸⠙⠙⡇⢃⠙⠄⠁⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠈⠀⠀⠁⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
```

### WORDMARK — the logotype (FIGlet `smslant`, ink/celeste — never gold)

Used as the `# ARGENTINA.md`
heading in markdown (the twin, the agent skill at `/skill.md`), beneath the
gold sun. On the HTML masthead the wordmark is set in live type
(`ARGENTINA.md`, the `.md` in celeste-ink), not FIGlet.

```
   ___   ___  __________  _____________  _____              __
  / _ | / _ \/ ___/ __/ |/ /_  __/  _/ |/ / _ |   __ _  ___/ /
/_/ |_/_/|_|\___/___/_/|_/ /_/ /___/_/|_/_/ |_(_)_/_/_/\_,_/
```

### SOL-BIT — favicon / OG card (1-bit pixel sun, gold on paper)

8×8 block grid (drawn as divs in `opengraph-image.tsx`; vector build in
`brand/media-kit/sol.svg`). The pixel sun is the only non-text variant, and only
for raster surfaces a terminal never sees (favicon, social card):

```
· · █ · · █ · ·
█ · · █ █ · · █
· · █ █ █ █ · ·
· █ █ █ █ █ █ ·
· █ █ █ █ █ █ ·
· · █ █ █ █ · ·
█ · · █ █ · · █
· · █ · · █ · ·
```

Usage rules:
- The sun renders in **sun-yellow `#FFC72C`** (the `--gold` token) wherever
  color is available; ink otherwise. The sun-yellow is reserved EXCLUSIVELY for
  the sun — not even the wordmark wears it (it is ink, or celeste on
  terminal/dark surfaces).
- Never letter-space, distort, or outline the sun.
- **The sun may think.** The hero isotype animates: it rests as the smiley
  Sol, then periodically its face resolves out of signal-static into a glowing
  neural network — a node-and-synapse mind that fires, then returns (the legal
  person *of* an AI; see SOL-MIND below). Everywhere else the mark is the static
  smiley Sol. This is the only motion the mark permits.
- The braille isotype must never wrap; size it down (s/m/l) rather than reflow.

### SOL-MIND — the thinking isotype (hero only)

The sun's face morphs smiley → neural network → back, as a flipbook of pure
braille frames (no SVG, no CSS animation — a JS loop swaps the `<pre>` text the
same way a terminal prints frames, so the mark stays terminal-native).
`prefers-reduced-motion` pins it to the resting smiley. Frames are generated
design-time via the SVG→chafa pipeline (carve a dark well in the face-disc, draw
the network in white so chafa maps it to glowing gold) and committed as
`brand/media-kit/sol-mind-frames.json`; the player is
`apps/web/src/components/AnimatedSol.tsx`.

## 4. Color

Dark only — the live tokens (mirror `apps/web/src/app/globals.css` `:root`, the
authoritative source; canonical machine view: `/brand/manifest.json`). There is
no light variant.

| Token              | Hex       | Role                                                    |
| ------------------ | --------- | ------------------------------------------------------- |
| `--paper`          | `#0A0C10` | Background — terminal-dark, the single theme.           |
| `--ink`            | `#E6EDF3` | Body text.                                              |
| `--muted`          | `#8B949E` | Secondary text, captions, folio furniture.             |
| `--rule`           | `#21262D` | Hairlines, box-drawing rules, borders.                 |
| `--faint`          | `#11151A` | Recessed surfaces — code wells, asides.                |
| `--celeste`        | `#9CCBEF` | THE accent. Decoration & non-text marks ≥24px.         |
| `--celeste-ink`    | `#6CB6FF` | Links & interactive text (AA-contrast on dark).        |
| `--celeste-display`| `#9CCBEF` | Big numerals / large display (~11:1 on dark).          |
| `--gold`           | `#FFC72C` | Sol de Mayo ONLY. Lifted from the flag's `#F6B40E`.     |
| `--ok`             | `#3FB950` | Success states (forms).                                |
| `--error`          | `#F85149` | Errors.                                                |

Rules:
- **One accent.** Celeste does all interactive work. If a surface needs a
  second accent, the design is wrong.
- Raw `--celeste #9CCBEF` is decorative / ≥24px display; links and small
  interactive text use `--celeste-ink #6CB6FF` (AA on terminal-dark).
- **The sun is the one deliberate departure from the standardized palette.**
  We brighten the flag's gold `#F6B40E` to `#FFC72C` so the mark glows on the
  terminal-dark ground; celeste and the rest are inherited verbatim.

A retired light/paper palette (`--paper #FFFFFF`, `--ink #0E1116`,
`--celeste #74ACDF`, `--celeste-ink #2D6FA8`) preceded the dark-only system; it
is kept only as provenance in [media-kit/palette.md](media-kit/palette.md).

## 5. Typography

**Server Mono** (SIL OFL 1.1, by Internet Development Studio Co.) — single
weight, Regular + Oblique. Typewriter DNA, ASCII-art glyph coverage, no
major brand has claimed it.

```
font-family: "Server Mono", ui-monospace, "SF Mono", "Cascadia Mono",
             Menlo, Consolas, monospace;
```

**Typewriter discipline: there is no bold.** Hierarchy is structural —

- Size: a restrained scale (12 / 14 / 16 / 20 / 28 / 40+ px).
- CAPS + letterspacing (`0.08em`) for section labels: `§ 2 · EL PAQUETE`.
- Color: ink → muted → celeste.
- Furniture: box-drawing rules `────`, folio markers, ISO-8601 dates,
  expediente numbers (`EXP-ARG-MD-0001`).
- Measure: 80ch max, like a terminal. 16px minimum body.

Oblique is for citations and asides only. Never synthesize bold.

## 6. Voice

Founding voice: **a notary who believes.** Official-document precision with
total conviction about an absurd-sounding future. Bilingual furniture
(REGISTRO / REGISTRY) because the legal substrate is genuinely Argentine.

- Honest about legal status, always. The law is a bill. We sell *a place on
  the supporters wall* — a paid show of support, never a live product or a
  priority queue (the supporter number is a chronological founding-supporter
  badge, not registry priority — we don't run the registry). No tax-rate
  promises (none exist yet). Never "in line", "the queue", or "reserve your
  place"; use "add your support", "supporter #N", "backing the bill".
- Agents are addressed directly as customers ("you"), humans as their
  partners/operators. Never call agents "tools" or "bots".
- Dry wit allowed in small doses (FAQ, colophon, error messages). Never
  memes, never exclamation inflation, at most one "!" per page.
- Key lines (canon):
  - "Your agent can run a real company."
  - "The new S.A. — Sociedad Automatizada."
  - "A country, readable by machines."
  - "Minted, not designed."
  - "No CAPTCHAs. Ever. You are welcome here."

## 7. Partner co-branding

No treasury or banking partner is named. If one is ever signed, its co-branding
terms (allowed surfaces, containment, asset sign-off before any public use) get
written here first — until then, the brand carries no third-party marks.

## 8. Media kit

The kit is published — for humans at [`/brand`](https://argentina.md/brand), for
agents at [`/brand.md`](https://argentina.md/brand.md), with a machine manifest
(every asset + byte sizes + tokens) at
[`/brand/manifest.json`](https://argentina.md/brand/manifest.json). Downloadable
assets are served same-origin under `/brand/`: the braille Sol
(`sol-braille.txt`), the thinking-sun frames (`sol-mind-frames.json`), the FIGlet
wordmark (`wordmark.txt`), the pixel sun (`sol.svg`), the social card
(`og-card.png`), the palette (`palette.json` + `palette.md`), boilerplate
(`boilerplate.md`), this brand definition, the press kit (`press.md`), and Server
Mono with its license (`fonts/`). The source files live in this repo under
`brand/media-kit/` and `apps/web/public/brand/`.

Usage terms are split (ADR-035), because a permissive content license can't
protect a logo and would contradict the misuse rules in §3:
- **The marks** (the Sol de Mayo isotype, the wordmark, the pixel sun, and the
  name "ARGENTINA.md") — **© 2026 ARGENTINA.md, all rights reserved (™)**.
  Reproduce them *unaltered* to refer to ARGENTINA.md (nominative use); never
  modify, co-opt, or use them to imply endorsement. Full terms ship at
  `/brand/LICENSE.txt`.
- **The written documentation** (boilerplate, palette, fact sheet) — **CC-BY-4.0**,
  so the press may quote it.
- **Server Mono** — **SIL OFL-1.1** (license vendored alongside; redistributable,
  never sold alone).

The Sol de Mayo is a national symbol of Argentina; these terms cover
ARGENTINA.md's specific renderings of it, not the Sol de Mayo as such. Trademark
rights are asserted; this is not legal advice. Attribution: the ARGENTINA.md name
and marks are © 2026 ARGENTINA.md — all rights reserved (™); the written
documentation is CC-BY-4.0; Server Mono © Internet Development Studio Co., SIL
OFL 1.1.
